What is the International Women’s Conference?

  • The IWC is a CLOSED conference of women alcoholics and is sanctioned by Alcoholics Anonymous.
  • The conference began in Kansas City Missouri in 1965.
  • The conference became known as the National AA Women’s Conference and is traditionally held in February as it’s the anniversary month of our founding member Bernadette O.
  • 45 members attended the first conference and it was held in Kansas City for five years in a row.
  • Other cities expressed interest in hosting the conference and it’s been held every year in February since 1965.
  • In 2021 because of Covid restrictions the conference in Charlotte North Carolina was held entirely on a virtual platform.
  • Every year since then the conference has had a virtual component enabling the participation of thousands of women who are not able to travel to the in-person conference.
